Anne Marie was invited to visit the Linden Homes development in Ogwell Brook to see in action the recent national shake-up of planning policy which aims to encourage construction, jobs and economic growth.
The new development has created 73 local jobs, and is training 12 new apprentices. It will deliver 140 new homes – and importantly within that 56 affordable homes, 37 social rented homes and 19 shared equity homes. £90,000 has also been invested in local cycle routes.
Demand for more homes in the area is clear, and interestingly 95% of buyers so far have come from within a 15 mile radius of the site.
Whilst on site, Anne Marie met with Greg Fitzgerald - Chief Executive of Galliford Try, Nigel Palmer - Managing Director for Linden Homes South West, and Bill Banks, Build Manager.
Anne-Marie Morris, Member of Parliament for Newton Abbot, commented:
"I’m pleased to have seen the Linden Homes Development for myself. It’s important that we ensure there is enough affordable housing in this great part of the country, so I’m glad to see that 56 affordable homes have been included within the development. I also welcome the local jobs the building works have provided. The opportunity for our young people to take on apprenticeships is a valuable starting place for their lives ahead."
