My first year in office

It has now been over 12 months since I was elected to serve as the Member of Parliament for Newton Abbot. It remains an absolute honour and privilege to be your representative in Westminster. I think it’s fair to say I have never been busier! However I would not change a single thing and I am looking forward to doing everything I can to bang the drum down in Westminster and make sure our voice is heard.

This week we revisited the new Localism Bill, now out of Committee Stage. In Committee the bill – a “Big Beast” if ever there was one – was heavily scrutinised and as a result there were a huge number of amendments, many from the government, to consider. It took most of two days to get through.

The big new bill this week was the Energy Bill which had its second reading. All sides are united in wanting a truly sustainable strategy which maximises the use of Green Energy alternatives and incentivises businesses and consumers to “go green”.
