Local MP, Anne Marie Morris, last week launched the spending challenge in Newton Abbot. Over the coming weeks, Anne Marie will be rolling out the consultation on how we can control public spending across the Constituency.
At the launch meeting over 50 members of the public discussed a broad range of issues, from the scrapping of free access to public buildings, such as museums, to reform of NHS budgets, overseas aid and ending of health tourism.
At the end of August, Anne Marie will send the best ideas to the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
The top ideas on getting value for money and improving services, from across the Country, will then be rolled out as part of the comprehensive spending review in the autumn.
Commenting, Anne Marie, said:
“We’re facing the challenge of a lifetime. After years of waste, cutting public spending won’t be easy but we’re all in this together. I want to get as many ideas as possible on how we can get better services for less money. This is going to be vital to getting the economy moving, protecting the most vulnerable and coming out of this stronger. That is why I’m spending the time listening to local people about how we can cut the deficit.”
She went on to say “I want to hear ideas from everyone in the Constituency and would ask people to write to me or email me their suggestions, both local and national thoughts on how we can get more for less”
Dates and venues of further consultations will be publicised shortly.
