“We are so lucky that one of the most beautiful stretches of railway in the country passes right through our constituency. Our railway line is a tourist attraction in itself and I have lost count of the number of domestic and international visitors I have now met who have been left spellbound as their arrival into Devon on the train gave them an opportunity to marvel at our spectacularly scenic coastline. It’s why I have constantly stood up for our railway line and will always continue to do so.
“It is however all the more important that we ensure our stations and surrounding areas match the high standard set by the train journey people have just experienced. With respect to Dawlish Station, I think we really must look seriously at giving the bridge a much needed and long overdue lick of paint. I also believe we need to look at the feasibility of installing lifts at the station in order to ensure easy access is available to all.
“I have contacted the Minister and Network Rail with respect to these matters and will continue to push on this until our bridge is painted and accessibility at Dawlish station is improved.”
