Torbay Hospital has opened a new, multimillion-pound endoscopy centre, significantly enhancing its capacity to diagnose and treat cancer and bowel disease.
The centre is part of the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and performs about 200 procedures weekly. This expansion, funded by NHS England and the South West Endoscopy Training Academy, aims to reduce wait times, improve patient experiences and outcomes, and provide advanced training facilities for future endoscopists and nurses. The centre is a key step in the trust's strategy to improve healthcare services and outcomes.
Anne Marie Morris MP visited the new centre and said, "The centre is new, clean and state of the art. A great place to work and be treated. Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust’s endoscopy service carries out around 200 procedures a week, as a result of this waiting lists have been halved."
The opening of the new endoscopy centre marks another significant milestone in the Hospitals Building a Brighter Future work to improve people’s experiences and outcomes of care following the opening of their £2.8 million radiotherapy planning CT suite in October 2023, and their £15 million acute medical unit in December 2022.
