LOCAL MP for Newton Abbot Anne Marie Morris, has secured large scale investment for her constituents. So far the total is approaching £160 million. The Teignbridge constituency is set to feel the lasting economic benefits of her work since election in 2010.
Recently appointed South West Small Business Ambassador, the MP has worked hard to help Ministers understand the area’s investment needs. Questioned on her hopes for Teignbridge,
Anne Marie replied ‘since my very first speech in Parliament I have pushed to get more investment. I am delighted to see this work quite literally paying dividends for Teignbridge. I am determined to ensure that local residents continue to see the results’.
Included within the £160m total is the £9.7m South Devon University Technical College based in Newton Abbot. The sum also includes developments at Newton Abbot and Dawlish train stations, and around £30m to improve the sustainability of the vital coastal railway. Important to many rural homeowners and small businesses, £92m is earmarked to roll out high-speed broadband across the South West region. Similarly the £76m Government investment in the South Devon Link Road will improve access between Newton Abbot and Torbay – targeting new local employers and further inward investment.
On the £20m flood defence investments, Anne Marie commented ‘every area I’ve targeted for investment is important to different user groups. We all saw how damaging flooding can be over recent winters. I believe £20m spent defending over 1000 properties is money well spent’.
