Today, (22nd November) South West MPs presented the South West Growth Charter to 10 Downing Street the day before the Chancellor gives his Autumn Statement.
Devon MP’s wrote a letter to Sajid Javid, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, expressing significant concerns over the provisional Growth Deal allocation that government has awarded to the Heart of the South West LEP. The letter requested a meeting with the Secretary of State in order to make the case for an increase in the allocation which will provide the necessary investment the region requires to fulfil its economic potential.
On the same day, Anne Marie took part in the Westminster Hall debate led by Gary Streeter, MP for South West Devon. Anne Marie took the opportunity to point out to the minister that Newton Abbot and Teignbridge are not just sleepy market towns but vibrant economies of Small and Medium sized enterprises.
The South West has so much to offer, but historic underfunding continues to restrict the region’s economic growth and productivity. It is economic growth and productivity that must be unlocked and Anne Marie will continue this fight to get it.
