This would be the first opportunity in 36 years for the public to have their say on this important issue. The text of the motion is below.
The House calls upon the Government to introduce a Bill in the next session of Parliament to provide for the holding of a national referendum on whether the United Kingdom
(a) should remain a member of the European Union on the current terms;
(b) leave the European Union; or
(c) re-negotiate the terms of its membership in order to create a new relationship based on trade and co-operation."
Anne Marie believes it is essential an informed debate on our relationship with the European Union now takes place. All three options presented in the motion need to be examined in depth so the electorate have the facts they need to make an informed choice in any future referendum. This is a point Anne Marie will endeavour to make in the forthcoming House of Commons debate.
Anne Marie does not believe the current relationship we have with the European Union is working. It is important these issues are raised and she looks forward to attending the House of Commons debate on Monday.
