DWP Office Closures

Thank you for contacting me about Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) office closures.

I understand that the current programme of DWP estate changes began in 2017 and is primarily focused on merging smaller, under-utilised jobcentres. With more people accessing their benefits online, many buildings across the DWP estate are no longer required. I know my ministerial colleagues are committed to ensure a more efficient service, and deliver good value for the taxpayer.

In Newton Abbot we have just seen the opening of a new temporary DWP jobcentre in the town centre, which I believe demonstrates the Government's commitment to the DWP estate in our area and to helping people find good jobs in the wake of the pandemic.

I have been assured that the Department is working directly with staff, exploring the use of hybrid working practices to retain as many people as possible and give them a better quality working experience.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
