In Parliament

Anne Marie was elected as the Member of Parliament for Newton Abbot at the 2010 General Election and gained relection on an increased majourity of 11,288 at the 2015 General Election in May.

The constituency of Newton Abbot has more than 70,000 people living in it, and it is Anne Marie’s job to represent the interests of these constituents in the House of Commons.

Being a Member of Parliament is an extremely diverse and busy role, which involves a lot more than just sitting on the green benches in the Commons and voting. While listening and contributing to debates is obviously an important and time consuming part of Anne Marie’s role, she has other responsibilities as well.

Parliamentary Private Secretary For Buisness, Innovation and Skills

Since the 2015 General Election, Anne Marie has been the Parlimentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Nick Boles (Minister of State for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department for Education) and Jo Johnson (Minister of State for Universities and Science). This means Anne Marie has a key role in helping the ministers during the passing of Bills through Parliament including sitting on Bill Committees and being present during debates on those particular topics. Since becoming Parliamentary Private Secretary Anne Marie's main role has been helping guide the Trade Union bill through the relevant legislative stages.
