Fighting to protect our NHS Services
Anne Marie Morris has successfully brought attention to the relocation of both the Mental Health and Renal Services in Newton Abbot, when its hospital moves to a new site at Jetty Marsh next January.
Neither service will move with the hospital but will be relocated to Torbay.
Anne Marie raised serious concerns about this decision. One in four people suffer mental health problems at some point in their lives, many of htem severe. For those planning for healthcare in the future, mental health is now seen as one of he biggest problems that we will face, replacing cancer and heart disease as the biggest killer and threat to life.
Anne Marie says "Not to address the need for mental healthcare services in Newton Abbot and surrounding villages in a measured way, with proper planning and financial support, is a travesty, I am concerned that the provision of beds across Devon is limited - the Trust currently spends £7,000,000 to £8,000,000 on provision outside the county. I do feel that the closure of the unit in Newton Abbot and relocating care provision to Torbay is just one example of the acute problem that exists across Devon".
Anne Marie will be working hard to make sure that local people are kept informed of proposed changes to our health service that affect us all in our daily lives. Anne Marie will campaign against hospital bed closures in Teignmouth and also for GPs in Starcross, who currently have to refer their patients to Torbay.
