Anne Marie Morris MP has welcomed the announcement by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust that the minor injuries unit (MIU) at Dawlish Community Hospital will reopen next month.
Concerns had been raised by Dawlish Hospital League of Friends and Dawlish Town Council last year about the sites continued closure. Anne Marie wrote to the Chief Executive of the NHS Foundation Trust back in November 2023 to seek clarity on when the MIU would be reopening at fully staffed levels and to ensure that this information would be communicated effectively with local residents.
Commenting, Anne Marie said: "The MIU reopening is fantastic news and is testament to the great work of the Dawlish Hospital League of Friends' campaign. I am glad that the assurances I received from the Chief Executive of the NHS Foundation Trust at the end of December are being put into place. I will be doing everything I can to ensure that this update is communicated effectively with the community, so that people know how to make use of this vital service."
The MIU is set to reopen on Tuesday 2nd April 2024, with operating hours of Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm. An ‘appointment-priority’ service will be in place, with people able to call and book appointments for the same day. The unit will also support walk-in visitors, but appointments will be prioritised unless immediate attention is clinically necessary.
The telephone number for appointments will be confirmed ahead of the opening. Details will be available on Torbay and South Devon’s website.
