Housing
Anne Marie Morris has a deep understanding of the importance of home ownership and in particular the need for local affordable housing.
Anne Marie has worked extensively with Newton Abbots Mile End residents, the Kingsteignton Awareness Group (KREAG) and the Old Seale Haynians in their campaigns against inappropriate development. She is working hard to support local communities while protecting the environment.
The Governments density targets are forcing developers to squeeze the greatest number of dwellings into the smallest of spaces. Consequently, there has been an increase in the number of small flats, and an indaquate supply of family homes. Young families in particular are being squeezed out of the housing market, while developers have less choice in the types of properties that they can build and are constantly restricted by this Governments inadequate planning policy.
Anne Marie says "I am conscious that housing policy is complex and challenging. We need to think about the social aspects of housing policy and not just the economic ones. As we are faced with new challenges the Conservatives focus evolves accordingly, to ensure that we recognise those challenges that are presented, and offer workable solutions to them. Affordability will be tackled through measures such as raising the stamp-duty threshold for first-time buyers and encouraging community-led plans to keep homes affordable, such as community land trusts and co-operatives".
