Prospective MP makes promises not to “play the system”
24th March 2010
Anne Marie Morris, Prospective Conservative MP for Newton Abbot, has launched her ‘Expenses Promise’.
In a leaflet delivered across the new constituency over the last few weeks, Anne Marie laid out her pledges to the electorate.
Amongst the pledges are commitments to publish her personal and office expenses on her personal website and open up her unedited expenses claims to local newspapers a the end of every financial year.
Anne Marie said: “Fewer people have any trust in our political system than at any time in our history and, after the events of last year, public confidence in politics is at an all time low.
“We can’t allow anything like the expenses scandal to happen again and that’s why I’ve made a series of promises that, if elected, I will allow the electorate to hold me to. Let me make it clear – I will not play the system.
“We need a new politics and my promise is to help deliver that. I feel that making these promises should be the first step for anyone who is committed to creating that new politics.”
