Newton Abbot Conservatives launch campaign in style
8th April 2010
Newton Abbot’s Conservatives kicked off the 2010 General Election campaign on Tuesday with Shadow Minister for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Nick Herbert and candidate Anne Marie Morris hitting the streets of Newton Abbot.
The pair campaigned at Newton Abbot’s Farmers’ Market in Courtenay Street, where local Conservatives also had a street stall, handing out leaflets and talking to shoppers.
Anne Marie said: “Finally, we get the chance to go to the country and prove that the Conservatives are ready for government and that Newton Abbot would benefit from that government.
“We are really pleased with the great reception we have received over the last two days of campaigning. People know that it’s time for change, even if they’ve never voted Conservative before.
“Touring local small businesses and talking to residents, we are finding great support for the Conservative policy on National Insurance and Conservative policies in general.
“We have a positive, vibrant campaign here which has engaged plenty of young people and we’ve knocked on every door in the constituency at least once. I’m really looking forward to the next month.”
Nick Herbert said: “Anne Marie will make a terrific Member of Parliament and provide a very strong voice for Newton Abbot. The reason I am here is we believe we can win this constituency. The residents I have spoken to were very supportive and there is certainly a great buzz around the Conservative campaign.”
